Starting college in my late 30's, where do i begin?
I am a 38 yr old wife and mother of a 15 year old daughter, a 3 year old son, and a 1 year old son. I am a stay at home mom, and I almost feel as though I am stagnating here. If that makes sense. My husband works all of the time, and has hobbies that he enjoys, but it seems that all I have is taking care of our home and our kids, and it makes me feel pretty useless. I would absolutely love to get enrolled in to college and take some courses online at home. My daughter lives most of the time with my ex-husband and so it's just the 2 boys and I at home most of the time. But the way I see it, my youngest is a year old, if I were to start now, I have a good 4-5 years to get a degree in something before he starts to school. And it will get easier for me when my 3 yr old starts school in 2 years, actually 1 year if I choose to send him to head start or pre-k.. I just have no idea how to even begin. I keep mentioning it to my husband and every time he says it's a great idea, but then he doesn't really take the time to help me figure out where to begin. I would need to start from scratch. I've never had any college and so I would need basic classes 1st off. Can you younger peeps tell me how I get started? I live in the Shenandoah Valley in Va. and was thinking of trying Lord Fairfax Community college. Any tips on how I can get started? I would really appreciate it. I need this for myself, and am very anxious to get started. I am assuming that if I wanted to start this fall I would have already had to register right? so how do I find out deadlines and such? And also, how do I go about trying to get financial aid or grants/student loans? Thanks Guys!! =)
