If I'm suing someone for repayment of a debt, does it matter what county I sue in?

My ex stiffed me on about $2500 of rent in Prince William County, Virginia. I now live in Fairfax County (about 25 miles away). Do I have to file against him in Prince William County court, or can I really stick it to him by filing in Fairfax County court, which is even FURTHER from where he lives?
