I have this friend who means a great deal to me, but i dont think he cares much about me?

we went out a couple of years ago and he said he was in love with me, but i dont think he meant it. he cant be a bit rash emotionally, and i was really hot back then. idk if he just wanted to get my clothes off or something but over the years he has confided a lot in me. we've gradually grown apart but i really miss him.. i've done this painting of an angel and i'm considering giving it to him, but i'm worried that if he doesnt care about me, i'll look like a creep. he sometimes laughs at me and says i only talk to him when i need something, but the truth is i make up stuff to ask his help with. i dont know if he's stopped talking to me because he doesnt care, or because he thinks i dont care because i just go to him with computer problems. only a few weeks ago he told me about something really awful that happened to him but i kinda has to draw it out of him. what to do?
